Welcome screen: photos, videos and animations
Before a guest touches it, the kiosk shows a welcome screen. Behind your logo and the Start button it can show moving or still art: an animation from the Chequo library (pizza, coffee, burger, a pattern in your colours and more), or your own SVG animation, photo or video. A tap anywhere on the welcome screen starts an order.
Landscape and Portrait
A kiosk shows the Landscape art when it stands sideways and the Portrait art when it stands upright. Each one has its own choice of art and its own positions, so you can set both even if you only own one kiosk.
The welcome screen is split into three zones. On a portrait screen they are Top, Middle and Bottom; on a landscape screen Left, Centre and Right. The logo, the Start button and the language button each go in one zone, and things in the same zone stack, logo first. Zones with nothing in them are free for your art.
Fill the screen or fit in the free space
Every piece of art has a layout:
- Fill the screen. The art covers the whole screen behind the logo and buttons, which get a soft shade so they stay readable. Whatever does not fit is cropped, so keep what matters away from the edges. Choose the shade's colour, opacity and size under Backdrop behind logo and buttons: a dark colour suits a dark picture, and opacity 0 removes it.
- Fit in the free space. The art sits in the zones you left free, as large as they allow, and its edges fade into your background colour. If no zone is free, it sits behind the middle zone.
Still or slow zoom
A photo can stay Still, or use Slow zoom (the default): it grows by 8% and shrinks back again over 40 seconds. Kiosks side by side zoom in step. A tablet set to reduce motion always shows the photo still, and a video's still frame instead of playing it.
Three kinds of art
| SVG animation | Photo | Video | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | One animated drawing that loops | A still picture | A short looping clip |
| Where it comes from | You draw it, or an AI chat makes it | Your camera or a design tool | Your phone, an editor or a stock site |
| File | .svg, up to 500 KB | JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 15 MB | .mp4 (H.264), up to 20 MB, 3 to 60 seconds |
| Guide | SVG animation format and SVG animation prompt | Below | Video format |
Photo rules
- JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 15 MB. HEIC and AVIF are not accepted: on an iPhone, save or export the picture as a JPEG first.
- The shortest side must be at least 480 pixels. Anything larger is shrunk to fit 2560 pixels when you upload it.
- The shape decides which screens it is for. A square photo (within 1%) works on landscape and portrait screens. A wide photo, at least 16:10 (width divided by height is 1.6 or more), is for landscape screens only. A tall photo, at least 10:16 (height divided by width is 1.6 or more), is for portrait screens only. A shape in between, such as 4:3, is refused: crop it first.
- A square photo of one dish works well with Fit in the free space.
Where to add it
- In the back office, go to QR Menu ā Kiosk.
- Choose Choose on the Landscape or Portrait art.
- Open the Mine tab and choose New welcome entry, then upload your file and give it a title.
- Pick the layout, the photo motion (for photos) and the positions of the logo and buttons. The preview shows the screen shape the art was made for.
- If a file breaks a rule, nothing is uploaded and the back office lists each problem in plain words.
- Choose Save settings. Every kiosk of the location picks it up.
You can keep up to 20 pieces of your own art per location, and at most 5 of them can be videos.
Making an SVG animation with an AI chat
You do not need to draw it. The prompt and the format are two pages that go into an AI chat such as Claude or ChatGPT together.
- In QR Menu ā Kiosk, choose Copy the prompt. It copies the SVG animation prompt and the SVG animation format in one go.
- Paste it into your AI chat and fill in the [blanks] in the prompt: subject, screen shape (wide for a sideways kiosk, tall for an upright one, square for both), layout, loop length, still frame second, colours and positions. If you hide the Start button, also ask it to invite guests to tap.
- Save the reply as a file ending in
.svgand open it in your web browser. It should loop smoothly, with no jump where it starts again. - Upload it under Choose ā Mine ā New welcome entry. If the back office lists problems, paste that list back into the chat and ask it to fix them.
Hide the Start button?
If you hide the Start button, a tap anywhere still starts an order, but nothing on screen says so. Add a hint to your art, such as "Tap to order".
